The Anti-Drone Mirage Costing India’s Defense Sector Hundreds of Crores
India’s defense sector stands at a critical crossroads. With growing threats from drones, cyberwarfare, and remote attacks, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has poured hundreds of crores into building indigenous defense capabilities. But what if one of the most celebrated defense startups, Big Bang Boom Solutions (BBBS), is quietly undercutting this mission — importing Chinese tech, rebranding it, and selling it to India’s Armed Forces as its own?
This is not just a story of possible fraud. It’s a direct hit to national security.
Is Vajra Shot or Just a rebranded NovaSky product?
Touted as India’s first “indigenous” handheld anti-drone gun, the Vajra Shot has become the crown jewel in BBBS’s growing defense portfolio. Awarded massive contracts and boosted by media coverage, the Vajra Shot is described as a breakthrough innovation — featuring radar-based detection and jamming capabilities with a 4 km range.
But here’s the kicker: It looks, behaves, and performs almost identically to the SC-SJ1000M made by NovaSky, a Chinese company based in Wuhan. The images below can be used to draw a visual comparison of the products and the striking resemblance between the products. The only notable difference is the company name and logo.

💸 MoD Funding — Meant for Innovation, Not Import
BBBS has received an estimated ₹200+ crore from the Ministry of Defence under the iDEX program — designed specifically to fund indigenous innovation. But if BBBS is merely acting as a reseller for foreign OEMs like NovaSky, this is not innovation — it’s misrepresentation and deliberate manipulation.
Worse, it violates the trust of taxpayers and warfighters alike. India’s armed forces rely on this technology in the field. Every rupee spent on a rebranded foreign product could have funded genuine Indian innovation.
🧠BBBS’s Other “Indigenous” Products Raise Red Flags Too
Let’s dig deeper. BBBS doesn’t just make the Vajra Shot. It also claims to produce advanced fixed and mobile anti-drone systems — like the Vajra Sentinel.
Now compare this with offerings from SkyCope (USA) and ApolloShield (Israel) — global leaders in drone defense.

This is a picture of Big Bang Boom’s anti drone defense system, as per their social media posts. One can notice SkyCope’s SkyEye and SkyGuard evidently visible in the display.

Several defense insiders suspect that BBBS is sourcing technology modules from SkyCope and ApolloShield, then “Indianizing” the outer casing — and calling it domestic R&D. Multiple ex-employees of BBBS have also admitted that the company is procuring from both SkyCope & ApolloShield.
Fun Fact
Here is a social media post showcasing “India’s First laser based hard kill system Developed by Big Bang Boom Solutions”:

Here is a picture of the product that was on display:

If you take a closer look, there is “THEOS” embossed on the side of the product. This is also directly imported from a manufacturer in China. I urge you to do a thorough search using Google Lens and you’ll find the details. You’ll find out that this is not even a working product, it is simply a mold. BBBS still does not have the capability to showcase such technology and is just taking advantage of the fact that the Indian public does not raise questions.
🔥 This Isn’t Just About Money — It’s About Trust & National Security
If these allegations prove true, BBBS is:
- Compromising India’s security by deploying potentially compromised tech from adversarial nations.
- Breaking the core principle of iDEX — self-reliance in defense tech.
- Denying real Indian innovators access to funding and market opportunities.
- Selling blackbox technologies to Indian Armed Forces while just making the User Interface & logo in India.
Imagine a Chinese backdoor buried inside a drone jamming module, now deployed on the India-Pakistan border. What’s at stake here isn’t just policy — it’s sovereignty.
🧠What Must Happen Now
This is the time for India’s defense establishment to step up:
- Audit all products sold by BBBS — track component origin, firmware, and supply chain.
- Mandate public disclosure of source OEMs for all companies claiming “Made in India.”
- Suspend contracts of any company found to have violated iDEX’s indigenous criteria.
- Create a technology integrity verification cell within DRDO or MoD to independently vet claims.
A Wake-Up Call for Investors: Demand Transparency Before It’s Too Late
To the investors backing Big Bang Boom Solutions: the time to act is now. As key stakeholders, you have both the influence and responsibility to demand full transparency from the founders regarding the origin of their technology. If BBBS is indeed relying on imported Chinese systems while claiming indigenous development, it not only puts your reputation at risk but could jeopardize long-term viability in a national security-sensitive sector. There is still an opportunity to pivot — to build truly homegrown, secure defense technologies that align with India’s strategic goals. But that requires courage, accountability, and your active intervention. Push for an internal audit, demand answers, and urge the founders to come clean. The path to real impact lies in integrity.
🚨 Final Thought
While Big Bang Boom Solutions (BBBS) has come under the spotlight for allegedly rebranding Chinese technologies as indigenous, it’s important to recognize that they’re not alone in the race — or the risk. Competitors like Zen Technologies & IIO Technologies have also rapidly rolled out anti-drone and surveillance solutions, often within tight timelines that raise eyebrows. In a defense landscape increasingly reliant on off-the-shelf, modular tech, there’s a real possibility that these companies too may be integrating Chinese-origin components or systems — whether knowingly or through complex supply chains involving third-party OEMs. With China dominating global drone and EW component manufacturing, it’s crucial that all players in India’s defense startup ecosystem be scrutinized, not just BBBS. The issue isn’t isolated — it’s systemic.
The goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat is too important to be hijacked by shortcuts and shell companies. If companies like Big Bang Boom Solutions are gaming the system — importing, relabeling, and profiting — then it’s not just fraud.
It’s a threat to India’s defense future. The time to investigate is now.
This exposé is just the beginning. In the coming months, we will be publishing a series of in-depth investigations that peel back the layers of India’s so-called defense innovation boom. From procurement irregularities to deeper audits of other “indigenous” tech providers, no stone will be left unturned. Our goal is not to target individual companies, but to ignite accountability and transparency in a sector where national security and public trust are at stake. Stay tuned — more revelations are on the way.
